Pricing and Booking Questions

Six answers on cost, payment and getting a plumber booked:

What decides the cost of clearing a blocked drain?

Three things mostly: how easily the pipe can be reached, how deep it runs, and what caused the choke. Roots in a cracked earthenware joint cost more to sort than a soft plug near a gully. You get a fixed upfront price before any work begins.

Do you charge by the hour?

No. The job is priced as a whole and you agree that figure in writing before we start, so there is no hourly rate guesswork while the plumber works. You can pay by card or EFTPOS on the day the drain is cleared.

How do I book a drain visit?

Ring (07) 3522 3397 and tell us which fixtures are slow, gurgling or overflowing, and how long it has been happening. We book a time that suits, and where the diary allows we can usually have a plumber there the same day.

What should I have ready when I call?

A quick rundown of which drains misbehave, whether more than one backs up at once, and anything you already know about the pipes, such as past root trouble or an older earthenware run. That detail points the plumber to the likely cause faster.

Is a blockage in the street main my problem?

Usually not. Your household drain is your responsibility up to where it meets the sewerage system, and everything beyond that connection belongs to Unitywater. If the camera shows the fault sits past the boundary, we will point you their way.

What should never go down a kitchen sink?

Cooking fat, oil and food scraps. Fat sets solid inside the pipe and builds up layer on layer until the run chokes. Scrape pans into the bin first, and a kitchen line stays clear far longer between professional cleans.

Drain Problems and Local Conditions

Six answers on why lines block around here and what to watch for:

Why do drains play up more after summer storms?

Summer and autumn bring the heaviest rain, and it all funnels towards the creek that runs through the town centre, the corridor council maps as the suburb's main flood hazard. Gullies and street pits take the lot at once, and any line already half choked backs up first.

Are tree roots a common cause here?

Very. The council keeps its significant figs, and the mature trees along the main roads push roots into the joints of house drains running out to the street. Once one root gets in, it thickens every year until the line blocks.

Do older seaside houses have different drain troubles?

They do. Houses built from the 1930s through the sixties often still run on earthenware pipe, and those socket joints crack with age and let roots in. Salt air off the bay also works harder on outdoor fittings on the foreshore side.

How do I tell a sewer blockage from a stormwater one?

Sewer trouble shows inside: toilets gurgling, water rising in showers, or overflow at the outside gully. Stormwater trouble shows outside, with pooling yards and flooded pits during rain. If both happen together, the main line is the likely culprit.

Can regular cleaning stop a drain blocking again?

Often, yes. A proper jet clean strips grease, silt and root fuzz from the pipe walls, leaving the bore smoother, so the next choke is usually years away rather than weeks. It suits lines that block on buildup rather than a structural fault.

When is a camera inspection worth doing?

Whenever a choke keeps returning or the cause is unclear. The camera shows roots at joints, cracked earthenware, squashed runs and silt inside the pipe, so the fix targets the real fault instead of the symptom you can see.
